Partners Against Sexually Transmitted Diseases (PASTD) is a volunteer-based nonprofit established in 2006 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic within the African-American community.
In 2008, PASTD began operating the AIDS Awareness Mobile Van, staffed with information specialists who educate communities about HIV and STDs in a fun and productive manner and distribute HIV awareness T-shirts, wristbands, and other incentives branded with HIV/STD messages.
The van includes a "life wheel" game on its body featuring HIV/STD-related questions, myths, facts, and answers. Players who spin the wheel are given incentives for correct responses and educational information for incorrect responses. The van travels and operates throughout Wake and Durham County four days a week for 30 hours per week. According to the North Carolina three-year HIV/STD Surveillance Report (2007-2009), Durham ranks number 4 in the state of North Carolina for HIV cases.
